George Ruth tending his restaurant.

George's Restaurant was a Baltimore bar owned and tended by former minor league baseball player George Ruth. Ruth opened the bar after he retired from the game in the late 1930s. Ruth was as avid a patron of his wares as any of his customers.

Ruth spent a far amount of his time behind the bar wondering how things might have been better for him if he'd managed to break into the major leagues in his youth. One cold day in February 1941, Ruth shared some of his wishful thinking with journalist H.L. Mencken.
