Garth Hoskin was a Chatsworthian born after The Change. He was short at five-seven but stocky. After joining the Chatsworth Lancers, he took to the training, practicing with sword, lance, ax and mace and keen to pump iron when he wasn't. He escorted Bruce Delgado when he went for a personal inspection of the frontier between Chatsworth and Topanga and suggested bypassing Topangan defenses by using Old Topanga Cannon Road but Bruce wasn't convinced it would work.[1]
Garth later attended a meeting between Bruce and Jared Tillman, an envoy from Topanga who warned against attacking. Garth didn't think much of the warning and was eager as a pit bull to take Topanga.[2]
Hoskin was pleased when Delgado decided to attack. Initially, the attack went well. While the secondary attack he had suggested through the forested Canyon sides failed, the main Valley forces managed to break through the Glenview wall. Hoskin was keen to advance and kept shouting encouragements to the other Lancers. However, a foot soldier came trotting up and reported that the Topangans managed to stop the advance due to a second barrier at a point where the Canyon narrowed about a half mile from the wall. They rode up to see it and before Delgado could issue orders, the Topangans sprung another surprise. They triggered an avalanche which rushed down at Hoskin and the other Lancers crushing them to death.[3]
