Franz Oppenhoff was the head of the Department of Germanic Studies at Friedrich Wilhelm University in Berlin.[1] A true adherent to Nazism, Oppenhoff was quite offended by Susanna Weiss' independence of will and scholarship, believing she should be a good Hausfrau rather than an academician.[2] Nevertheless, he allowed her to attend the Medieval English Association's annual meeting in London,[3] and queried her on her take on the political situation among the British Union of Fascists, as well as the direction Führer Heinz Buckliger intended to take Germany.[4]

As the Reichstag elections loomed, Oppenhoff expressed his devotion to the status quo, oblivious to how unpopular the status quo had become.[5]
