Harry Turtledove: Index > Annotation Articles

There are a few events that HT makes regular reference to within his works, usually taking place before the POD, but nonetheless having great importance to the TL after the POD. A big one is the Treaty of Versailles. Obviously, that matters a great deal in the WWII centered works, and is referenced heavily in HW, WW/Col, and ItPoME. However, the relevance doesn't stretch much beyond "People really didn't like the ToV", but those references are numerous.

Is an article worth doing? It would be a quick summary, and then a literary note saying "It's really important in much of HT's work." See the article on Wales for example. TR 16:27, October 9, 2009 (UTC)

I'd get behind that. John Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry would also qualify. Maybe even Perry's expedition to Japan--We have an article on the man himself, and rightly say he's significant in Worldwar because the US named its first FTL ship after him; but we have a DoI section which amounts to "Someone or other ruminated on Perry's role in history in an idle moment."
I'm sure we'll be able to think of many more as we push this forward. They could get their own category for sure. Turtle Fan 18:59, October 9, 2009 (UTC)
I take it then every obscure, single-sentence-only character ever mentioned has an article now that you want to expand into pre-novel/story events? Jelay14 01:34, October 10, 2009 (UTC)
You can "take" anything, including a hike, if it pleases you.
There is that option. Turtle Fan 03:24, October 10, 2009 (UTC)
In the alternative, we could simply link to alternate sources for oft-cited but pre-POD events. TR 01:41, October 10, 2009 (UTC)
Hmm--How about a quickie article saying for "Treaty of Versailles" saying "The Treaty of Versailles was a peace agreement signed between Germany and the members of the Entente. It has featured prominently in several HT stories. See such-and-such source for details."? Assuming we can find reliable sources for all of them, of course. Turtle Fan 03:24, October 10, 2009 (UTC)
