A Republican, he was a popular mayor and a strong supporter of the New Deal. Roosevelt's director of civilian defense during the run-up to the United States entering World War II.
Fiorello LaGuardia in Southern Victory
Fiorello LaGuardia was a Socialist Governor of New York. He replaced Al Smith when Smith became President of the United States. He spoke at the Remembrance Day parade of 1941. His speech and the day's events in general were more patriotic than most Remembrance Day commemorations since the Great War as people prepared for the upcoming Second Great War.
