Friedrich Adolph Sorge (9 November 1828 - 26 October 1906) was German-born American socialist and communist agitator. He was involved in the revolution of 1848 in his native Saxony. Upon his arrival to the US Sorge helped organize labor organizations and communist political parties.

Friedrich Sorge was a German-American living in Chicago during the Second Mexican War. Prior to his arrival in Chicago, he'd been driven from New York City.

Sorge was the head of the Chicago Socialist Alliance when Abraham Lincoln approached him to propose that his faction of the Republican Party join the Socialists. At first Sorge was reluctant since Lincoln's policy position was more moderate than his own but Lincoln convinced him that democratic reform of society might be possible in the United States. He and Lincoln became the founders of a new, more effective 20th Century Socialist Party which was able to contest elections with the Democrats for all political offices including the presidency.
