Nakajima

The Nakajima Ki-49 Donryu ("storm dragon") was a Japanese medium bomber of World War II. It was a twin-engine, mid-wing, cantilever monoplane of all-metal construction fitted with a retractable tailwheel undercarriage. It was known to the Allied Forces by the code-name "Helen".

Nakajima Ki-49 in Days of Infamy[]

The Nakajima Ki-49 was first brought to the Hawaiian islands at the Army's request to bolster their defences after the US bomber raid led by Colonel Jimmy Doolittle (much to the Navy's chagrin). However, the like the Hayabusa, it didn't see much combat other than air patrolling and ASW for most of the war.

During the second attempt to retake the islands, the United States Navy planes strafed all Japanese army air fields, destroying nearly all of the bombers. When Lt. Saburo Shindo was forced to land at an Army Airfield, and had to take ammunition from the Ki-49s for his 20mm machine guns. The Lieutenant didn't think much of the bomber because it was Army owned and had a shorter range than the G4M, but he admitted that it was much faster.
