Luray in Southern Victory[]

By 1944, Luray was the northern most town in the Shenandoah Valley held by the Confederate States. The United States front was only a few miles to the north. Confederate General Clarence Potter paused in Luray on his trek to plant a superbomb in Philadelphia. He had his Confederate vehicles repainted in U.S. green-grey and U.S. markings place on them. He and his men changed into US Army uniforms and he received current passwords and countersigns. This let his force successfuly slip through U.S. checkpoints and eventually reach Philadelphia.[1]
