Hong Kong, officially the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, is an autonomous territory on the Pearl River Delta of East Asia. Beginning as a trading port, Hong Kong became a dependent territory of the British Empire in 1842 after the First Opium War, and remained so until transfer of sovereignty of Hong Kong back to China in 1997. It remains a major port and financial center. Officially a "special administrative region", Hong Kong is largely self-governing, compared with other parts of China.

Hong Kong in Southern Victory[]

Hong Kong was a British colony and a major trading port for the Empire in China for much of the 19th and 20th centuries. However, many realized that Japan probably had designs on Hong Kong, even though Britain and Japan were supposed to be allies.[2]

Literary comment[]

While Japan invaded British possessions in southeast Asia during the later volumes, Hong Kong's status at the end of the series is not addressed.

Hong Kong in The War That Came Early[]

Hong Kong was a British Colony and a major trading port for the British Empire in China.  After the Japanese entered World War II in the Pacific, they quickly conquered Hong Kong. The port city then became a stop over point for Japanese personal travelling south to the front from Manchukuo.[3]
