Frankfort is the capital of Kentucky. Its population was recorded in 2010 as numbering 25,527, the fifth-smallest population among capitals in the United States.
General Robert E. Lee's tour of Kentucky took him to Frankfort in March 1865.
In the spring of 1941, soon after the return of Kentucky to Confederate control, Freedom Party Guards blew up a police station in Frankfort, blaming it on pro-US terrorists.
