Diana, Princess of Wales (Diana Frances Spencer; 1 July 1961 – 31 August 1997) was the first wife of King Charles III of the United Kingdom when he was Prince of Wales. They were married in 1981 and divorced in 1996.

Diana had two sons, Princes William and Harry. William is the heir apparent to the thrones of the United Kingdom and 14 other Commonwealth Realms.

Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris on 31 August 1997. The circumstances which led to that accident have been subject to much controversy and speculation.
