"They'd Never--" is a satirical science fiction story by Harry Turtledove. It was first published in Alien Pregnant by Elvis, edited by Esther Friesner and Martin H. Greenberg, DAW 1994, and reprinted in Reincarnations, Capclave, 2009.

The story is about an "attack" on the offices of a fictional American tabloid newspaper, the Weekly Intelligencer. Reporter Mort Pfeiffer and his editor Katie Nelligan are singled out for a telepathic probe by the four aliens. While everyone survives, and the staff is able to get pictures, no one believes the Intelligencer and its staff.

During the telepathic probe, Pfeiffer also receives some of the thoughts of the alien scanning him and Nelligan. Pfeiffer hears part of the alien's thought, "They'd never--," but the link is broken Pfeiffer can hear it all. At the end of the story, realizes that the alien was likely thinking that "they" (humans) would never believe the Intelligencer.
