Federated Commonwealths of America

From Turtledove

The Federated Commonwealths of America was born from the British colonies established in North America throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. As the monarchy of England grew more absolutist, a steady flow of immigrants fled to North America, despite the threat posed by sims.

As England grew more tyrannical in its rule, the colonies united and broke away from the mother country, becoming independent in 1738. The independent government they chartered bore a strong resemblance to the Roman Republic, the only fully developed model for a functioning republic that was readily available to the Founders in the 1730s.
