Drefsab (d. 1943) was an intelligence officer in the Race's Conquest Fleet on Tosev 3. He was one of the most effective agents the Race had, and was personally answerable to Fleetlord Atvar.

Drefsab first came to Atvar's attention in the opening months of the Race Invasion of Tosev 3, when he informed Atvar that the people of Poland, the Polish Jews especially, were actively fighting the Germans even as the Germans were fighting the Race. Atvar ordered support for the Poles and the Jews, and took care to remember Drefsab.[1]

Drefsab soon proved an effective and tenacious intelligencer, but that proved his undoing when he investigated the ginger trade that was addicting so many males to the herb. He told a horrified Atvar the truth, who in turn ordered Drefsab to continue the investigation.[2] In time, Drefsab hunted down and killed Yi Min, an apothecary and ginger supplier in China.[3] Tragically, this did not solve the ginger problem, as other suppliers quickly appear to take Yi Min's place.[4]

While outing ginger users in Besançon, France, Dresab encountered and befriended landcruiser driver Ussmak, who was a ginger addict himself.[5] Drefsab spared Ussmak from arrest after determining Ussmak was was able to control his addiction and refrained from tasting before combat.[6] It was while in France that Drefsab first learned of German SS officer Otto Skorzeny after Skorzeny successfully stole a landcruiser with the help of a gingertaster that Drefsab had not purged.[7]

In 1943, Drefsab began an operation to arm Germany's ally, Croatia, using the coastal city of Split as a base of operations. While Croatia meant little to the Race, Drefsab knew that Germany would intervene. Drefsab hoped that Skorzeny specifically would be part of any sabotage mission, and thus, planned to do away with Skorzeny once and for all.[8] However, Skorzeny figured out quickly that the Split operation was probably a trap when he learned that Drefsab was there.[9]

Thus, when both sides met at Split, things quickly went badly for Drefsab. Split was destroyed, and Drefsab was ultimately shot to death by Skorzeny himself.[10]
