Desert Center is a census-designated place in the Colorado Desert in Riverside County, California. It is in southern California, between the cities of Indio and Blythe at the junction of Interstate 10 and State Route 177.
Desert Center was on U.S. Route 70 and populated with no more than a couple hundred people. The outskirts of Desert Center were overgrown by invasive plants and animals brought by the Race from Home. Sam Yeager was sent to Desert Center to observe the invasive ecology in 1965. He was taken into custody on the orders of President Earl Warren when his tour of Desert Center was complete.
