Cornelius Joyner in The Guns of the SouthEdit

Cornelius Joyner was the justice of the peace of Nash County, North Carolina. In November 1867, he presided over the voting station for the presidential election[1]. In March 1868 he nailed the Proclamation Suspending Habeas Corpus In North Carolina to the Nash County courthouse notice board and then read it out to the gathered townspeople. George Lewis then stepped forward and announced that Governor Vance authorized the recall to duty Company D, 47th Infantry.[2] The next day, Joyner helped supervise the distribution of AK-47s to each man of the 47th for their march on Rivington.[3]
