Sir Claude John Eyre Auchinleck, GCB, GCIE, CSI, DSO, OBE (21 June 1884 – 23 March 1981), was a British Army commander during World War II. Most of his career had been spent in India. During the war, Auchinleck successfully served on several fronts, including in Norway, India, and North Africa.

Despite the fact that Britain had fallen to Germany in 1941, and all imperial troops were ordered to lay down their arms, Claude Auchinleck and his men fought the forces of Walther Model until 1947. Model described Auchinleck's men as bandits.

His forces being finally overwhelmed and popular support having run out, Auchinleck formally surrendered to Model in New Delhi.
