Charles Milles Manson (born Charles Maddox, November 12, 1934) was leader of what came to be known as the Manson Family, a cult-like commune that began to form around him in San Francisco, California, U.S.A. in 1967. He was convicted in 1971 of conspiracy to commit a series of murders carried out by members of the commune at his instruction. He has spent most of his life in prison.
