Charles III (1716–1788) was King of Spain 1759–88 (as Carlos III de Borbón), King of Naples and Sicily 1735–59 (as Carlo VII and Carlo V), and Duke of Parma 1732–35 (as Carlo I). He was a proponent of enlightened absolutism.
[edit] Charles III in Atlantis
Charles III aligned his country with France during the French and Spanish War. The alliance profited his country nothing; Spanish territory in Atlantis was attacked by Victor Radcliff, which led to a slave uprising. The Spanish forces in Atlantis were unable to put this rebellion down, and French forces refused to do the job. The rebellion continued even after England won the war and absorbed French Atlantis.
[edit] Literary Comment
Charles III is not specifically mentioned by name in the text, but as history in Europe remained largely unchanged, it seems most likely that Charles followed the same course in Atlantis he did in OTL.
