Charles Henry Dimmock (October 18, 1831 - March 29, 1873) was an American engineer who worked with various railroads. During the American Civil War, he was commissioned captain in the Confederate States Army and was responsible for fortifications at Roanoke Island and around Petersburg, Virginia. After the war, he was city engineer of Richmond.
Colonel Charles Dimmock was the chief marshal at Robert E. Lee's inauguration on March 4, 1868.[1] He survived the Rivington Men's attack with only the loss of the lower part of his right ear. He showed Lee the weapon the Rivington Men had used in their attack, a firearm called an Uzi.[2]
Later, as Confederate troops traded gunfire with group of attackers were holed up in AWB's former Richmond headquarters, Dimmock personally insured Lee stayed in a safe location in the Hall of Delegates, only letting Lee leave the building after the AWB threat had been neutralized.[3]
