I'm confused about Alaska--It wasn't what I've ever thought of as imperialism. You've given the qualifier of territory, but wouldn't that require us to add every US state except the original thirteen? Turtle Fan 04:55, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
- I don't know. It was already in there. TR 05:00, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
- If only one or more of us had enough power around here to reverse things that don't make sense to us and that no one can remember why it was done . . . Turtle Fan 16:40, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
So what do you think of 75.68.122.13 putting Alaska back almost six years later? ML4E (talk) 22:03, January 8, 2015 (UTC)
- I removed it, and stated reasons on the Alaska page before I saw this comment. TR (talk) 23:48, January 8, 2015 (UTC)
Territories[]
We have Guam, Puerto Rico, Midway, Wake Island, and Howland Island. Any objection to move them into a "Territories of the United States" category. We could then create a broader "U.S. Political Subdivisions" and move both the Territories category and the US States category there. TR (talk) 21:41, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- That works. We might want to include the Philippines as well; your namesake certainly did. Turtle Fan (talk) 14:44, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- The phrase "unorganized, unincorporated territory of the United States" comes up quite often in those articles. Maybe we should differentiate between that and a more ordinary territory? In the category description, if nowhere else? Turtle Fan (talk) 18:47, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- I like the idea of entitling the category "Unincorporated Territories of the United States". We can bypass the whole "territory to state" pattern of westward expansion; HT has engaged that history just enough that a more specific title probably will avoid confusion. TR (talk) 19:10, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- All right, but doesn't that exclude PR and Guam? Turtle Fan (talk) 19:26, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- Huh, shows what I know. Turtle Fan (talk) 03:43, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
