This is a parent category for United States Senator. Articles should go in one or both of the sub-categories, but not here.

The United States Senate is the upper house of the United States Congress. Under Article I of the United States Constitution, each state elects two senators, regardless of population, to a six-year staggered term. Before the ratification of the Seventeenth Amendment, senators were elected by the state legislatures. Now, however, senators are directly elected by citizens of the state.
