The Darkness Series is a six-book series written by Harry Turtledove and published by Tor. It debuted in 1999 with Into the Darkness and was concluded in 2004 with Out of the Darkness.

It tells the story of the Derlavaian War, a war fought in the southern hemisphere of an imaginary planet which Dr Turtledove conceived for the series. The map is divided among a number of kingdoms which resemble, to greater or lesser degrees, countries which fought our own World War II. The Derlavain War roughly follows the contours of World War II, albeit with some noteworthy differences. However, Derlavai is unlike our world in that magic is possible. It is studied scientifically, has been harnessed for both practical and theoretical purposes, and has largely displaced technology.
