British Columbia is the third largest Canadian province and is located on the west coast of Canada. It is the only province or territory in Canada that is adjacent to the Pacific Ocean. Situated on the southern tip of the province's largest island, Vancouver Island, is Victoria, the capital of British Columbia and the fifteenth largest metropolitan region in Canada. British Columbia's largest city is Vancouver, the third largest metropolitan area in Canada and the second largest in the Pacific Northwest after Seattle, Washington. Located across from British Columbia's mid coast are the Haida Gwaii, the province's next largest islands, after Vancouver Island, which itself can be found just across the Strait of Georgia from the southwest corner of the mainland. British Columbia is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the west and southwest, the Canadian province of Alberta to the east, the Canadian territory of Yukon to the north, the Canadian territory of the Northwest Territories to the northeast, the US state of Alaska to the west and northwest, the US states of Washington and Idaho to the south and the US state of Montana to the southeast.
Under a plan developed by Irving Morrell, the United States Army invaded the province of British Columbia during the Great War and occupied it along with the rest of Canada after the war. After the Great War, Morrell served occupation duty in Kamloops in the province's interior. Japan tried to incite a rebellion in the early in the early 1930s by running guns into the province, which led to the Pacific War.
Southeastern British Columbia, along with southwestern Alberta along the Rocky Mountains were the only remaining parts of Canada that were not taken over by the Krolp.
