The big ol' floppy straw hat was a favorite fashion accessory of Confederate President Jake Featherston. He often wore it when traveling and when at his leisure. At such times, he was rarely seen without it. However, he did not wear it to the front in the Second Great War; there he practiced the doctrine "Function Over Fashion" and wore a soldier's steel helmet. Also, he did not wear it while in military uniform, as it had no place under the uniform code of the Confederate Army at any point in its history.
