Barbara Rasmussen was Jefferson's state public information officer during the administration of Bill Williamson. Rasmussen was a shapely blond with blue eyes. While Williamson was a sasquatch and Rasmussen was a little person, Williamson could appreciate Rasmussen's beauty. As he was married, he never acted on that impulse.[1]
Rasmussen played at least a peripheral part in several key moments in Jefferson history in the late 20th century. In August 1979, she accompanied Williamson to his meeting/photo op with the Yeti Lama in Eureka.[2] The following month, she joined Williamson on his trip to Port Orford to meet with Nobuo Fujita.[3]
In Spring 1980, she managed Williamson's announcement that the State Legislature had authorized a new annual grant of $75,000 a year to the Ashland Shakespeare Festival.[4] In November 1980, she put together the press conference that announced the discovery of the speartooth salmon.[5] In February, 1981, she and Governor Williams welcomed former hostage Mark Gordon home from Iran.[6]
