Decca bahamas map mod1

The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is an independent, sovereign, English-speaking country within the British Commonwealth, comprising two thousand cays and seven hundred islands that form an archipelago. It is located in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of the United States; north of Cuba, Hispaniola (Dominican Republic & Haiti) and the Caribbean Sea; and northwest of the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Bahamas in Southern VictoryEdit

The Bahamas were a British colony until the United States occupied them after the Great War.[1]

The Confederate States targeted the Bahamas early in 1941, at the beginning of the Second Great War.[2] By the end of the year, the Bahamas had fallen to the C.S..[3] This handicapped the USA's ability to operate in the Atlantic generally and the Caribbean specifically for the first years of the war. Native Bahamians, who were generally black, continued to resist the CS presence.

In 1944, the US retook Bahamas following its victory in the Battle of the North Atlantic.

Literary commentEdit

While it's hinted in Return Engagement that Population Reduction was going on in the Bahamas, the issue is never addressed again.

Bahamas in The Two GeorgesEdit

The Bahamas were the British Empire's toe-hold in the Holy Alliance-dominated Caribbean.[4]

Bahamas in WorldwarEdit

Literary CommentEdit

It is not entirely clear who rules the Bahamas in the Worldwar timeline after 1944. At the time of the Race Invasion of Tosev 3, it was under the rule of the United Kingdom. After the Peace of Cairo, the U.K. lost a number of its territorial possessions. In Second Contact, only three independent countries in the Caribbean are listed: Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. It is also stated that what the Race didn't occupy was taken by the Germans. However, the Race was generally not equipped to occupy islands in the Worldwar series, and nothing suggests Germany colonized the Caribbean. The map included in Second Contact is not helpful, as the Bahamas are too small. However, it is entirely possible that the Bahamas remain under the rule of the United Kingdom after the Peace of Cairo, since the United Kingdom didn't join in the Race-German War of 1965.

NotesEdit

  1. The Victorious Opposition, pg. 327. The task of occupation isn't described in any prior volume.
  2. Return Engagement, pg. 196.
  3. Ibid. 259.
  4. Map The Two Georges, frontispiece. The Bahamas may be part of the American province of Florida, the map is a little vague on this point.
