Avram Sasha Davidov was a soldier in the Red Army. A short, skinny Jew, he was held in contempt by his fellow Russians but it was acknowledged that he was less likely to go over to the Germans.

Davidov was the point man in the squad Sgt. Ivan Kuchkov joined when the latter parachuted from his downed bomber. Kuchkov thought him jumpy but also that that was what made him a good point man and so kept him on. Davidov had the habit of suddenly appearing as if from thin air when he would return from scouting assignments but, while unnerving, was another sign of his competence.
