An armored personnel carrier (APC) is an armored fighting vehicle designed to transport infantry to the battlefield. Armor on APCs are usually composed of simple steel or aluminum, sufficient for protection against small fire arms and most shell fragments. Just about any type of anti-tank weapon can defeat the armor of an APC.
APCs are usually armed with only a machine gun although variants carry recoilless rifles, anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs), or mortars. They are not usually designed to take part in a direct-fire battle, but to carry troops to the battlefield safe from shrapnel and ambush. They may have wheels or tracks.

Randolph Brooks and Justin Monroe witnessed several armored personnel carriers in operation during the Ohio-Virginia War of 2097 in the alternate where they were stationed. Brooks was reminded of his experience with such vehicles in the Second Iranian Intervention in the home timeline.

The Moabites were so restive that the Philistinians needed to use armored personnel carriers to transport troops.
The vehicles had an armored operator cab in front with a separate, armored, box-shaped troop carrier in the rear large enough to carry a squad of soldiers. The cab had hatches for access while the carrier had clamshell doors in the rear. In addition, the carrier had firing slits which allowed soldiers to return fire without exposing themselves to attack.[1]
In addition to providing protection from small arms fire, personnel carriers mounted machine guns which could be used for fire support.[2]
