Annapolis Maryland wide by D Ramey Logan with Grant Jensen-1-
Annapolis is the capital of the U.S. state of Maryland. Founded as an English colonial capital in the mid 17th century, it was named Anne's Town by Governor Lord Baltimore for his late wife. In 1694, this name was translated into Greek, and stated to be named after a different Anne - the Stuart princess who later became the first Monarch of the United Kingdom. Annapolis became an important seaport in the 18th century and was a center of the slave trade. Following the American Revolution, it briefly served as the capital of the United States, from November 26, 1783 to June 3, 1784.

Annapolis is home to the United States Naval Academy, which itself is commonly referred to by the shorthand name "Annapolis."

Jefferson City in Joe SteeleEdit

Annapolis, Maryland, was on Mike Sullivan's list of small, insignificant cities chosen as state capitals instead of larger, more obvious choices[1].
