Aleksandr German was a Soviet brigadier general during World War II. His unit was overrun by German forces near Pskov early in the war, and, along with Nikolai Vasiliev, he commanded guerrilla operations against German forces in the region. After the Race's Conquest Fleetlanded, German and Vasiliev began cooperating with German commander Kurt Chill in holding the Race out of the area. German and Vasiliev, recognizing that Chill was senior to them and had more experience commanding such actions, submitted to his command, although only under the condition that a group of stranded British fliers, led by George Bagnall, would be the final arbiters of any decision. Nonetheless, the relationship between the Russians and Chill was tumultuous at best.
German and Vasiliev's forces began fighting Chill's when Vasiliev and Chill were killed in battle. German lost the use of one hand to a falling stone. By that time, the Race had been driven off.
