The Albuquerque Dons were a short lived baseball team from Albuquerque, New Mexico. The team played as part of the Arizona-Texas League in 1932. While the Dons were able to become the league's leading team with a record of 57-42, the league folded in July 1932, and the Dons folded with it. The Dons played in Tingley Field, a stadium built specifically for them.
Albuquerque Dons in The House of Daniel[]
The Albuquerque Dons were able to hang on as a semi-pro baseball team even after the Arizona-Texas League folded. They were a more or less racially integrated team, as their third baseman was colored.[1]
In May, 1934, the Dons played the House of Daniel in Tingley Field, winning 5-3.[2]
Literary comment[]
Aside from their longer lifespan, the Dons in the novel appear to be the historical version of the team, rather than an analog.
